Obituary of Veronica G Valles

Veronica G. Valles, affectionately known as "Vera," passed away at the home she shared with her family on April 22, 2024 at the age of 94. Vera was born on November 17, 1929, in the neighborhood of San José, to Graciana Jaramillo Garcia and Lucio Garcia who preceded her in death.

Vera was proud to be from Albuquerque and "couldn't imagine why anyone would want to live anywhere else."  She was the beloved wife of Apolonio "Paul" Valles for 45 years prior to his death in 1992. Vera had four siblings who passed away prior to her: Florencio Duran (Antonia), Merenciana "Mary" Brown (Dewey), Virginia "Biddi" Gonzales (Willie), and Epimenio Garcia.

She is survived by four of her seven children: Priscilla Garcia and husband Reynaldo, Barbara Valles Quintana, Ruben Valles and wife Maricela, and Graciana V. Valles. Three of her children were called home before her: Joseph Valles, John Paul Valles, and Eileen Valles. Vera had 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great grandchildren spanning a total of 6 generations. Vera also has countless "grandchildren" from Barcelona Elementary School where she lovingly dedicated 30 years of her life as a volunteer. She was honored with an award from the City of Albuquerque in 2022 for her dedicated service to the community. Ever the devout Catholic, she worshipped at San José Parish, St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and St. Edwin’s Catholic Church, and was involved in several prayer groups and ministries throughout her life.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of our beloved matriarch during her services which will be held at San José Parish located at 2401 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 at 10:00 am on Friday May 3rd, 2024. Vera's services will include a viewing, followed by a rosary, and funeral mass. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.

Pallbearers will be Vera's grandsons and great-grandsons: Steven Quintana, Dominic Blea, Elias Garcia, Darrius Valles, Michael Sanchez, and Gerald Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers include: Elizabeth Garcia, Germaine Garcia, Monica Ortiz, Andrea Garcia, Debbie Valles, Loretta Brown, Renee Chavez, Sofie Giron, and Bessie Gallegos. 

A reception will take place following interment, location to be announced. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends to either Riverside Funeral Home at 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or directly to the Valles family.
